Breakout Session #1
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Making Metrics Work for Gift Planners
Joseph O. Bull

With the advent of advanced computation and “big data”, metrics to measure fundraising activities are prevalent throughout all types of organizations.  When it comes to measuring the effectiveness of a gift planning program, what are the best measures? When it comes to measuring the effectiveness of blended gifts, what are the best measures?  Although not all “planned” gifts are deferred, much of the work of individual gift planners will pay off in the future—often after the original fundraiser has left the organization and the donor relationship and stewardship of the commitment have changed hands, perhaps several times. CGP's Metrics Task Force is examining best approaches to setting goals and measuring performance for fundraisers charged with developing blended gifts, bequests, charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities, and other gifts that have a future impact on the bottom line. In this session, task force chair Joe Bull reports on connections between metrics and fundraising success.

Breakout Session #3

Let's Talk - Planned Giving Conversations Part 1
Maureen Mahoney Hil
l, CFRE

Do you know how and when to talk to your donors about planned giving? Conversations and solicitations of planned gifts can be tricky and challenging even for the most seasoned fundraisers. Knowing that bequests and other types of planned gifts are the lowest cost, highest value gifts we can generate, we all need to do a better job of talking to our donors and prospects about planned giving. In this session we will look at how careful listening and using the right words and thoughtful strategy can make planned giving conversations more donor-focused, mission-driven and successful

Breakout Session #4
3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Let's Talk  - Planned Giving Conversations Part 2
Maureen Mahoney Hill, CFRE

In this second part of Planned Giving Conversations, we will put theory into practice. Using case studies, we will practice initiating the conversation, building relationships and closing the gift. Small group and one-on-one exercises will allow participants to explore using newly-learned skills in real-life situations. Participants are encouraged to share situations from their current donor list, and together we will develop strategies that will move those conversations toward closing the gift. Participants will leave this session feeling more comfortable and competent talking to their donors about planned gifts.
